Help For The Unprepared

Have you ever felt unprepared? Sure everybody has at one time or another. I've been at my job for 11 years and it's been quite the journey. However, I've been in my current position, as a trainer for 1 year. I conduct training for new hires and I'm responsible for helping prepare them to succeed in the workplace. It is an awesome task and responsibility. However, this particular week I had to co-train. Well, let me just say when day two came, I said "I'm not ready yet!"

You’d think after a year of training, those thoughts would disappear. But if you think that, you’d be wrong. At first I clearly felt inadequate, but I realized I was just unprepared . . . like a test I hadn't sufficiently studied for. I was unready. I even wondered if the person I was co-training with was wondering how I got this job/task/assignment/responsibility.

Now David said, “Solomon my son is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the Lord must be exceedingly magnificent, famous and glorious throughout all countries. I will now make preparation for it.” So David made abundant preparations before his death. – 1 Chron 22:5

Later in the week, I found myself thinking about great leaders of God who were called by God to do a task they felt unprepared for. Like Moses, Jeremiah, Gideon, and even Paul . . . maybe you think that you need more time to develop, to learn, to prepare, to grow. And while fear, anxiety, sense of inadequacy are all understandable — KNOW THIS: When God pushes you into your purpose, you will rarely ever feel ready. However, he will fulfill his purpose in you, he will equip you, he will enable you, he will protect you, and he will accompany you; and what a difference it makes knowing that when you are being sent, someone is going with you. Also, the best use of your life is to take on challenges so big that if they succeed, only God can get the credit.

Let me also say, in your lifetime, there will be many assignments given. For example, before I took my current position as a trainer, I was an ILP Coordinator. After returning to work from FMLA (sick leave), I was assigned to be a trainer; another position I didn't even ask for and one I felt unprepared for.
Then he called for his son Solomon, and charged him to build a house for the Lord God of Israel.  – 1 Chron 22:6
Now, my son, may the Lord be with you; and may you prosper, and build the house of the Lord your God, as He has said to you. Only may the Lord give you wisdom and understanding, and give you charge concerning Israel, that you may keep the law of the Lord your God. – 1 Chron 22:11-12

I say all that to say, if you find yourself still feeling unprepared, don’t worry! Hang in there, you’ve got this! Don’t let the enemy convince you you’re not ready for everything God has in store for you. YOU ARE READY – not because of anything you’ve done, but because God has made you ready! Move forward in faith. God will be with you, will guide you, and will give you the help you need.

Pray, Prepare, Proceed.
