My First Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is such a special time for remembering all the amazing women in our lives who mean so much to us — but there's something extra wonderful about getting to celebrate your very first one.
Today marks my first Mother’s Day celebrating with my three-month-old daughter, Shelby Grace. Prior to this Mother’s Day, the thought of people wishing me a happy Mother’s Day was bittersweet for me due to experiencing loss of a baby in pregnancy; and as a stepmom it’s a day of the year that can be a painful reminder that you’re not a 'real' mom. As a stepmom, you do all the motherly stuff, but it still doesn't make you The One . . . but this year I am so grateful to celebrate my very first official Mother's Day. I love being a mother. Being a mother is beautiful, hard, rewarding, tiring, but completely worth it all and I’m so thankful for every moment; and I feel truly blessed to spend Mother’s Day with this amazing little person. I wouldn't have this holiday without her, for it's her who made me a mom.
Behold, children are a gift of the Lord. The fruit of the womb is a reward .
(Psalm 127:3, NASB)
Happy Mother’s Day to me and to all of the mothers, grandmother's, great grandmother's, stepmothers, foster mother's, adoptive mother's, fur mother’s, soon to be mother's and those mother's in Heaven. Mother's are priceless. Don’t forget to remember moms who’ve miscarried or lost a child this Mother’s Day. While it is a happy day for most, it can bring up feelings that a lot of many don’t want to deal with.
